Darrell & Premier

Fundraising for “Vocals of the Cayman Brac Youth Ignites” was a meaningful and encouraging experience. I would like to sincerely thank the Hon. André Ebanks, Premier of the Cayman Islands, and Mark Tibbetts, District Commissioner for the Sister Islands, for their support.

Their encouragement meant a great deal and added to the success of this important effort for the youth of Cayman Brac.

I take off my hat to Miss Rose Myrie, who God inspired to pray and ask Him to send someone to help the young people. I had no idea she had prayed that prayer. I did not know her, and she did not know me. But God spoke to me clearly: “Go to help the young people.” Because of that calling, I dropped all I was doing.

This journey has been a reminder that when God gives direction, He also prepares the way and connects people for a greater purpose.

The children came out in great numbers, full of joy and excitement. Parents told me some were shy at first, standing by the table in their shirts, afraid to speak. I prayed that “God would remove fear from the children and empower them to take charge. 

To my surprise, the children began asking, “Can we have some of the books?” They walked the grounds, gave away books, and returned with contributions.

Rose, and I joined the walk again this year, from Layman Scott High School to the hospital and back. It was a great turnout. At the end of the walk, I was asked to speak to the youth and children.
I shared a bit of my own journey how I once shared studio space with Bob Marley, Paul McCartney’s drummer, and even stood on the same bandstand as Bon Jovi. During those years, I was offered cocaine and marijuana, but because I made a promise to myself as a teenager never to use drugs, I was able to resist the temptation then and many times after.
