I am Darrell Dacres, better known as “Cayman’s Native Son, a local boy with a big dream that came true.”

I began playing guitar at the age of seven and made my debut as a professional bass player by thirteen. Like many Caymanians, it took me some time to find the courage to stand on my own, but eventually I played all over the Cayman Islands and earned a reputation as the Island’s premier bass player with the band Regeneration.
In 1974, my band traveled to Jamaica to record our first album a milestone that remains one of my greatest memories. During that recording session, I had the incredible opportunity to meet Bob Marley and The Wailers in our shared studio space.
I do not perform in nightclubs, bars, street celebrations, or pubs. However, I do have uplifting Gospel music, which is distinct from my celebration music, and I’m also available for ministry in churches and Gospel concerts.

“In 1987, the Cayman Islands Music Association held its first Grammy Awards, where Darrell was awarded the title of Best Bass Player. At the same event, his band, ‘Network” was recognized as the Best Band. Network is fondly remembered among local musicians far and wide, and Darrell has shared the stage with many international greats, including Mighty Sparrow, Bon Jovi, and “The Temptations, and the Trumps”
“Darrell was also a well-known figure on locally and overseas television. In 1997, he envisioned creating a musical TV program. Within months, he flew a producer from New Hampshire to the Cayman Islands to produce a local show, which aired shortly after its completion.
Throughout his career, Darrell has produced and recorded numerous albums with hits like My Caymanian Girl, Dandolito the Dinosaur, and Another Sunny Day. After living in Minnesota for a few months, he was celebrated as one of the most authentic personalities of happy, and careful island music. What makes Darrell truly unique is that he produces, performs, and engineers all his music himself. “

“After becoming a Christian, my wife filed for divorce, and I had never owned or read the Bible before. I took some time to build a relationship with my best friend, Jesus, and to evaluate my past mistakes. I aimed to understand spiritual music from God’s perspective rather than the traditional views passed down by people, where everyone believed their way was right. I also realized that most people couldn’t play an instrument or sing in key.
As I researched, I discovered that Israel has two types of music: one for worship and another for celebrations, which we now refer to as parties. However, both forms of music still maintained respect in their lyrics, and sounds.
One day, outside my house, I saw some young people drinking alcohol and quarrelling. I decided to go and show them Jesus’ love and befriend them. I felt led to play my song “Another Sunny Day,” and they reacted by asking if I had any other happy songs. I then played two more of my songs, “Dandolito The Denature” and “My Caymanian Girl.” They replied, “Mr. Darrell, the music we have today is only messing up our minds, and your music is so happy and uplifting! What can we do to help you record more of this kind of music for us?”
“A few months later, I was taking my granddaughter to the park, and she was looking sad on her phone. I asked her if she wanted to hear some of the songs I had recorded years ago. After playing about three of them, she replied, “Granddad, I never knew you recorded such happy songs! The music we listen to is making us depressed.” I turned my head away with tears in my eyes.
At the gym, I started playing some of my songs, and people from the UK, Canada, and other countries asked me if I could record more of that kind of music. It touched me deeply, so I collected their information and began sending them some of my songs free of charge. To my surprise, the same thing happened when I was relaxing on our beautiful beaches in the Cayman Islands. Even some pastors asked me to record happy music for the children on their regular days. It didn’t take a scientist to convince me that God was speaking to me.
With that in mind, you can now download, stream, or buy my music, including my new recordings, on many platforms. I am also working on my Gospel music, and my first album is titled “The Amazing Love of Jesus,” featuring happy and uplifting songs! The gifts God has given me are meant to bless me and others.
